Congratulations to 2018 Scholarship Winners
As part of our Community Outreach for the Spring of 2018, New Jersey Relocation Council was pleased to celebrate our 7th year presenting the Scholarship Program. Over the years, the donors and sponsors who have supported our Scholarship Program have allowed us to award $31,000 to 32 deserving students. Our committee is tasked to select college-bound high school seniors who have relocated during their high school years at a distance of at least 50 miles. Seeking students who fit all of the criteria, namely - have relocated, maintained a GPA of 3.0 or higher, participated in a range of extracurricular and scholastic activities, and shared their relocation story by writing a moving essay - committee members contacted high schools in eleven of the State’s counties. Some of the schools have promoted our program to their students through the years, and look forward to hearing from NJRC for this scholarship opportunity for their seniors.
This year we received a record 33 eligible applicants from the 11 counties, and our Committee had the difficult task of selecting only four winners. Each student will receive a $1,000 scholarship; three of these were made possible by NJRC, and an additional $1,000 was awarded by The Foundation at Worldwide ERC. This year’s winners are: Joana Fardad, Annalise Kristensen, Natalija LaPorta, and Kagi Okawa-O’Connell. The recipients along with their family members and guidance counselors joined us during our Spring 2018 Conference, held at The Galloping Hill Golf Course in Kenilworth, NJ on 26 April. In the fall of 2018, Anna will attend Brigham Young University and Natalija will attend Bergen Community College; Joana and Kagi were still undecided as of this writing.
We are so proud of them, we congratulate them on their achievements, and wish them well in their very bright future! We thank these young women for sharing the story of their journey; we appreciate everyone’s participation, and are looking forward to next year!
NJRC was pleased to celebrate our 6th Scholarship Program Anniversary as part of our Community Outreach. The goal of our committee is to select college-bound high school seniors who relocated during their high school years. To accomplish this goal, we contacted high schools in 11 New Jersey counties seeking students who relocated, maintained a GPA of 3.0 or higher, balanced a mix of extracurricular and scholastic activities, and told their relocation story through a compelling essay. Many of the schools have supported our program over the years, and look forward to hearing from NJRC for this scholarship opportunity for their students. This year we received 20 applicants from the 11 counties, and our Committee selected 4 winners.
This year we are proud to support and recognize Deonte Freeman who will attend McDaniel College, Morteza (Morty) Hagh who is undecided, Grace McCormick who has committed to Auburn University, and Ciara Mulvihill who will join Passaic County Community College. Each student will receive a $1,000 scholarship. We met each of the students and their parents/guests during our April, 2017 conference, held at The Palace in Somerset, NJ. We are so proud of the students, congratulate them on their achievements, and wish them well in their college endeavors.
Special thanks to the generosity of our sponsors over the past 6 years who have supported this rewarding program. To date, we have awarded $27,000 to 28 deserving students.
